Long story short, allowing yourself to hear the voice of others, opening your mind to new perspectives may bring an enlightenment to your soul. Or you may stand firm in your beliefs. Either way, listening to others will allow yourself to grow.
When was the last time you thought you questioned yourself and your assumptions? Do you ever think that you might be wrong? Why does everyone feel the need to always be right even if they know they may not be? What’s so bad about being wrong anyway?
There are a lot of valuable ideas and approaches that are not yours. And to perpetuate your own need and sense of being right, forgetfulness creeps in and you ignore useful, and often times correct perspective of others. Fighting to always be right will oftentimes earn you nothing more than resentment. Often times, creating barriers and making communication nearly impossible.
In todays age of the internet and facebook and other social media platforms, one can become attached to always “being right” even when they’re not. It’s easier for individuals to “fight” and attack others because if they’re wrong, first of all they can just disappear into the cyber abyss. Secondly, there are some that just don’t care and believe they’re right no matter what.
The goal? Let go of always needing to be right and you’ll open up new perspectives and possibly a new way of thinking.
Listening to others without trying to figure out how to prove them wrong can be incredibly rewarding. Think of what you could learn and how you could benefit from listening to and accepting the perspective and experiences of others.
Chances are, you’ll come closer to the truth when you let go of just trying to always be right?
